Our Story

At Protege, we provide compassionate and professional psychological therapy.

Protégé was founded by Erwin Ovalle and a group of community leaders with a shared vision: to support the Latino population by removing traditional barriers to mental health care. As advocates working directly with underserved communities, they witnessed firsthand how Hispanic and Latino individuals were often left behind when it came to access, affordability, and culturally competent support.

In response, they launched Protégé—an initiative committed to making mental health care accessible, inclusive, and empowering for all.

Despite early challenges with shifting regulations and limited funding, the team remained resilient. In 2023, the organization renewed its mission with the help of dedicated board members and volunteer counselors, serving over 135–250 individuals annually from a small office in downtown Los Angeles.

Therapy is our Passion!

Since then, Protégé has remained focused on creating safe, healing-centered spaces where individuals can grow and thrive. We believe mental health is a fundamental right—not a privilege—and we envision a world where everyone, regardless of background, identity, or ability, has access to compassionate therapy and a supportive community.

A world where mental health is prioritized, and individuals are empowered to lead balanced, fulfilling lives.
